Our commitment to quality control in sugar production

We only create and deliver products and services of the highest quality. As a result, we have obtained a range of accreditations to demonstrate this fundamental commitment.

Quality control is the second of our Ten Pillars of CSR. As a food business, delivering a continual supply of natural pure sugars, molasses and pure syrups, quality is business critical. It underpins our strategy and operations to ensure that our customers and end-consumers are confident that they are sourcing from specialists who can demonstrate product origin and quality.

We have gained key industry accreditations that demonstrate our deep commitment to quality. These include both general and industry specific certifications:

ISO9001 2008: we consider this globally recognised standard as the entry level quality standard for any business operating in the wider food and beverage sector, as well as the speciality sugars industry.

BRC Global Standards: the British Retail Consortium’s global safety and quality certification programme shows that our sugar products and processes have traceability and meet industry recognised quality standards.

Organic Food Federation: all foodstuffs labelled as organic must be certified by an approved body. Membership of this organisation confirms that our sugar, syrup and molasses products comply with UK and European organic food regulations.

Sugarmark: a quality charter backed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, the Sugarmark confirms that our sugar and syrup is natural, and offers both health and fair-trade protection.

Kosher Certification: all of our products are Kosher Certified by the London Beth Din Kashrut Division (KLBD) for all year round use under the Kosher Status of Pareve-non Passover.

Quality assurance ISO 9000:2000: our production and manufacturing quality processes and documentation meet the standards required by the International Standards Organisation (ISO).

Bee Farmers’ Association: honey is another natural sugar, and, through our membership of this organisation, we demonstrate our commitment to quality and ethical standards in the processing of honey products and our supply of pure sugar bee feed.

With food origin so important to consumers, we use technology to follow all our sugar, from the mill or refinery through the delivery chain to our factory and onwards into every sugar, syrup or special sugar formulation that we manufacture. This complete audit trail allows our customers to trace their Ragus sugar ingredients from field to final formulation.

In addition to the range of sugar products we manufacture, our commitment to quality and traceability extends to our consulting service for custom formulations. This means that our sugar chemists follow demanding quality processes during the formulation of new custom sugars and syrups.

As a result of our state-of-the-art factory in Berkshire, UK, and investment in the latest advanced instrumentation, we can manufacture both straightforward and custom sugar formulations in small batches and bulk loads, with a guaranteed supply on time and in full.
